Green Dry Cleaning Services at Mulberrys

Organic Dry Cleaning That’s 100% Non-Toxic!

Mulberrys dry cleaning services in Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Washington combine classic craftsmanship with 100% toxin-free technologies that are innovative, safe, and environmentally friendly. Ordinary dry cleaners use harsh chemicals such as perchloroethylene or siloxane and high levels of heat to dry clean your clothes. At Mulberrys Garment Care, our award-winning dry cleaning and stain removal experts use toxin-free, organic dry cleaning solvents and detergents to clean your clothes. This enables us to return your clothes cleaner and without the chemical smell while following environmentally friendly dry cleaning practices to preserve our planet.

Environmentally Responsible Dry Cleaning and Laundry

Our commitment to eco-friendly, green dry cleaning practices extends beyond our use of 100% non-toxic cleaning techniques. Mulberrys is also incredibly proud to be a green-powered business. Our San Francisco-area facility is powered by solar energy while our cleaning center in the Minneapolis area is powered by wind energy.

Mulberrys uses recycled wood for our hangers and recyclable garment bags. Our pickup and delivery services also enable you to stay home, save on gas and conserve emissions by letting our one vehicle drive to you instead of many vehicles driving to us.

Mulberrys wants to do its part to join the communities we serve in leading the way for environmental stewardship and eco-friendly behavior. We believe in preserving the quality of clothing with non-toxic, chemical-free cleaning processes by using the best and safest methods possible for our customers and our planet.

Mulberrys’ Chemical-Free Dry Cleaning Mission

Mulberrys Garment Care has long been viewed as organic dry cleaners, due to being a pioneer of eco-friendly, green dry cleaning services since its founding. Our values are deeply rooted in environmentally friendly dry and wet cleaning methods as well as other sustainable efforts wherever we can provide them. Since the dawn of dry cleaning, people have been accepting the use of the harmful chemicals traditionally used to clean clothing.

Dry cleaning has existed, in some form or another, for thousands of years. Original methods used by the Romans included the use of lye, ammonia, and a type of clay called fuller’s earth. As time progressed, however, so did fashion. As common wardrobes became more extensive and elaborate, the need for a better method of cleaning them arose. Eco-friendly dry cleaning methods progressed and chemicals changed as the need for sustainable dry cleaning services only grew with time.

The most commonly used chemical in archaic methods of dry cleaning is called perchloroethylene, or perc for short. Popularized in the late 1930s, perc came into abundant use as the previously preferred solution of petroleum solvents diminished due to World War II. While it seemed like the perfect cleaning solution as it proved to have unmatchable cleaning power on all fabrics and wasn’t flammable, perc is a toxic sludge. Its capabilities made it the ideal option for decades—until now.

The Benefits of Perc-Free Dry Cleaning

At Mulberrys, we understand the harmful effects of perc on the water and overall environment of our services areas of Minneapolis and San Francisco. According to Occidental College’s Pollution Prevention Education and Research Center, 85 percent of the United States’ 35,000 dry cleaners use perc as their preferred cleaning solution. If you’ve ever picked up your dry cleaning and smelled a faint waft of chemicals, that was perc.

Perc is a synthetic volatile organic compound (VOC) that is not only harmful to the environment but is also harmful to humans and their homes. VOCs readily evaporate into the air at room temperature, meaning perc can easily travel through your car and home while you put your bounty of dry cleaning away. Classified as a toxic air contaminant and major groundwater pollutant in Southern California, it’s no wonder Mulberrys wants to rid eco-friendly Minneapolis of perc as a dry cleaning option.

Perc is a toxic chemical that is a likely carcinogen and can contaminate air, water, and soil during cleaning, purification, and waste disposal. Lab studies show perc can damage the liver and kidneys as well as cause harm to the brain and central nervous system. And don’t think these harmful effects are only felt by those who work directly with the chemical at the source—the Environmental Protection Agency found that bringing clothes dry cleaned with perc into your house can elevate perc levels throughout your home, causing headaches, dizziness, or other symptoms.

Mulberrys is here to provide 100 percent safe, non-toxic eco-friendly dry and wet cleaning for Minneapolis and San Francisco. We can help the environment one step at a time and give you a surefooted peace of mind about the elimination of perc from your life and home.

Mulberrys Green Dry Cleaning Solution

In addition to convenient solutions like dry cleaning delivery and same-day dry cleaning we’re committed to providing our customers with the greenest and most environmentally-friendly dry and wet cleaning services possible. We’re at the forefront of sustainability with our proprietary green cleaning methods and you reap the benefits directly.

Other green dry cleaners may claim to be green and eco-friendly, but don’t be fooled. If your environmentally friendly dry cleaners states they’re truly green but are using the GreenEarth method (siloxane), they aren’t truly green. While these are more earth-friendly alternatives to perc, they both incorporate the use of toxic solvents in order to clean your clothing.

Mulberrys doesn’t use siloxane. Instead, we use completely non-toxic cleaning methods: wet cleaning or dry cleaning with only the greenest, most eco-friendly detergents.

Green Wet Cleaning:

While it may sound like a substantial waste of water, wet cleaning is actually the opposite. Wet cleaning involves computer-controlled machines that precisely wash and dry your clothing without wasting excess water or heat. Mulberrys’ experienced professionals can tailor each wash and dry to the type of garment being cleaned and the severity of its stains.

By assessing the type of stain in your garment, our experts can determine how to get rid of it through the exact combination of water, machine movement, temperature, and eco-friendly laundry detergent—all without the use of chemicals. That's right: non-toxic, chemical-free dry cleaning!

In addition, the cost to wet clean garments is lower than traditional dry cleaning methods. While it does produce some wastewater, it is the most energy-efficient method.

Green Dry Cleaning:

Mulberrys proprietary organic dry cleaning methods produce the cleanest clothes according to the Delta Whiteness Index.

Like wet cleaning, our truly green dry cleaning is an incredibly energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly cleaning method. Our dry cleaning is performed with a non-toxic solvent made with corn from Minnesota, so its safe and sustainable. Your clothes will thank you.
